Bio –
I am a graphic / web / interactive designer and illustrator living in Chicago.
In terms of my professional career, I consider myself to be an all-around designer. I have had extensive training in multiple fields of art and design, and can execute and contribute on a wide variety of projects. I consider my greatest strength to be my well-rounded knowledge of the many applications and techniques related to art and design and my capacity for creative ideas.
Background -
I started off as an illustrator studying fine art in multiple mediums at the College of DuPage. I had always liked to draw and to paint and wanted to use my time there to develop my abilities and to sharpen my artistic talents. I trained as an artist, and studied how to translate those skills into consumer art and advertising.
As I gained experience working toward being an artist, my interests began to broaden into other realms related to art. I began looking for programs in computer art and design. I found a program that offered what I was looking for at the International Academy of Design and Technology. I studied multi-media design with an emphasis on interactive design. I now have a BA in Visual Communications, as well as a Certificate in Digital Design.
Personal –
We all have our lives outside of work and career. This is the time when we get to play, and I’m a big advocate of play. These are just a few simple facts for you to get to know me better:
- I’m an avid soccer fan: love to watch it, love to play it. I’ve been playing since I was 5 and will continue to do so until I am no longer able to move. Being on the field helps life make sense; there’s just something about fresh cut grass, crisp white lines, a few posts and a net that puts all aspects of life in their place.
- I think Chicago is one of the best places to be, especially in the summer as there are seemingly endless things to do. Winters are cold and windy, down right brutal on most accounts, so when summer arrives everyone is outside and everything is happening. There are festivals everywhere, every bar has a drink special and a beer garden, and there are 18 miles of great trails and beaches next to Lake Michigan for all the fun one can have under the sun.
- I love video games (pretty much all kinds). I don’t play them as much as I did when I was growing up or when I was in college, but I can still hold my own. I’m liking the way video games are broadening the market too, for example, Guitar Hero is pretty sweet and the Wii is the best new thing since English muffins.
- I have an awesome wife. She’s a Flexican. That’s a Filipino and a Mexican combined. She is also learning graphic design and wants to start a family graphic design company, called Rananananan
